Steam drum

Steam drum (or boiler drum) is a large horizontal cylindrical pressure vessel, typically positioned at the top of a water-tube boiler. It is the central hub for steam-water separation, water storage, circulation control, and steam purification. It is not a heat source itself, but processes the steam-water mixture from the furnace risers. Fire-tube boilers usually use a boiler shell instead of a dedicated steam drum.
